Golem Colour Choice

Dah'linc! Do tell me,
just which is my good side?
I painted two of the armour plate sections on the Megalith. I'm keeping to the same palette as the Dwarves, metals and warm earthy colours.

While I like the TinBitz on the left more, I think I'm actually going to go with the stone greys of the right hand plate. I'll definitely be keeping the burnished gold trim on all the plates.

The reason I'll go with...

Moar Golems

I've finally got my paint station in place again. It's always that bit of an extra impediment to painting if everything isn't just ready to go.

In other news I got the Megalith pinned and based a while back. Thanks for the help Mr.Saturday - you popped my pinning cherry.
More pics await...

dedicated paint time

IMG_0010
early progress
Last weekend I made a trip to hang out with Mr.Saturday so that we could get some productive painting time under our belts.  I've been spending no time on it of late, and I reckon Sat's been the same, so making an event of it made sure neither could back down. :)
His Fimir are coming along nicely, I can't wait to see the first finished unit.

We started with some pinning. Never having done any pinning before, I was quite scared of irrevocably damaging any models by drilling into them. Or perhaps misaligning the pin on one side of the join, causing an arm to go be misaligned with the body and ruining the entire model.
My fears were unfounded, under careful tutelage we got the three Golem models all pinned up, and one pinned to it's base.

After that, I got 3 Hammerers done, which I'll post photos of later. I made a good start on 3 more, then based up a bunch of trees (they still need painted).

The Golem's Leg arrived

Time passed. The lichen growth had reached it's one knee, as it sat in the deep dark waiting for it's makers to return and finish their work.
It contemplated it's lonely fate. Memories of battlefields past, pained screams, the sound of bone crunching. What it remembered most was the clouds, floating peacefully overhead. What it knows is the strength of stone, the heat of metal, and the deepest dark only illuminated by molten rock.
It would be needed again. Until then, it would wait, guarding, beneath the mountain.

That missing left leg, was delivered by Gifts for Geeks with only one email request, and one reminder. Good on them for not forcing me to chase them up and start spamming them with email every week.

This particular leg is for the Wold Watcher, which seems smaller than the other Orobos Guardians. Hopefully it'll look fine in a unit at twice the height of a dwarf.
That or it'll be the little redhead scrappy-doo of the golem bunch.

It also came with a random arm holding a shield. I have no idea why, it definitely doesn't belong on the Golem. In summary, free bits!

More Golems

A thunderous slow knocking on the door.
"DELIVERY."
The massive animated Golem, alight with the glow of an inner furnace thousands of years old, makes the noise of grating stone as it leans down while I stare out the open door at it, mouth agape.
It delicately hands me a small box, slowly turns and crunches it's way out the drive.
Inside...

Hordes Minis

Remember the Golems I had my eye on
Hooray! They arrived.
I'm a tad worried the Guardian won't fit in a unit in a 40mm x40mm space, but the other two look great.
The wold watcher is the smallest of the bunch, but hopefully it'll look good in a unit.

Dwarf Unit fillers - Golems

I've been thinking about some unit fillers for a while, and couldn't come up with anything I liked. The usual beer/keg related stuff sounded good, but I'm no good with green stuff - and couldn't find any suitable models.

Then I happened upon the idea of Golems. Big honking stone bad asses.
I like it a lot, but I'm not sure it's in line with warhammer 'fluff'.
In fact I'm pretty sure I'm stepping way over the line. Dwarves and Golems...where did I get that idea from. Terry Pratchet? Elder Scrolls Morrowind? There are tonnes of fantasy settings which have this pair up.

Running with the fluff for a minute, Golem's are magic powered right? How about Rune powered...yeah ok Rune powered. I can buy into that.

I asked MrSaturday for a mumble, he seemed to not think it was outside the realm of plausibility in WFB, and pointed me towards these Rune covered lovelies from Hordes:
I was only slightly discouraged by the 'thrown together' look these guys have. The bound together wooden limbs - or the Guardian's roots which grow into his stone forearms don't sit quite right.
On the other hand, they look pretty awesome with the Dwarves...

I picked up a WoldWarden today as a tester to see how it fit size wise.
Perfect. It'll fit on a 40mm base just fine, and it'll physically fit in with the dwarves.

What do we think? Are Rune powered Stone Golem's too far outside the Warhammer world?
Do Golem's even exist in the Warhammer world?
Could they have been (re)discovered by a Dwarven hold?
